Can medications be used as diagnostic agents?
Yes!
I was recently asked about this, and the first thing that came to mind was radiopharmaceuticals.
Radiopharmaceuticals are radioactive medications that are often used together with imaging procedures to diagnose medical problems.
In this case, the patient only receives a small amount of radiation, which is considered safe.
That radioactivity can be detected and monitored with imaging devices, which allows the specialist to study how a specific part of the body is working.
