Today is my birthday!
A few weeks ago, I came across a fascinating post about languages, so I thought I would write something similar to get to know my followers better. Therefore, I have some questions for my readers:
Which languages are you proficient in?
How did you learn them?
What have you found challenging in language learning?
What have you gained from knowing more than one language?
How do you use your languages?
What other languages would you like to learn?
My languages are Spanish, Catalan, and English.
Spanish is my mother tongue since I grew up in Spain in a Spanish-speaking household. While it's the language that I feel more comfortable working into, it hasn't been my primary language for the last twenty years.
I learned Catalan in school and made it my primary language in college. Although life in Catalan has been a reality since the Middle Ages, Spanish is the dominant language in some areas (e.g., medication leaflets are only available in Spanish).
English is a language that I learned in school, but I mostly used it at work. That, however, changed when I met my husband. By the time we moved to the United States, English was already my primary language.

Multilinguism and a love of communication these languages prompted me to study for a degree in Translation and Interpreting at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
I've been specializing in medicine and life sciences for a few years, so I currently translate, write, and interpret for the healthcare industry. Here in the US, I work primarily in English and Spanish.
Other languages that I've studied include:
French,
Galician,
German,
Hebrew, and
Russian.
Last year, I began learning Portuguese with Rosetta Stone. I have considered mastering this language to include in my professional services.
