#AMWA2022

Will you attend the 2022 AMWA Annual Conference on November 2–5 in Denver, Colorado?

Each year, the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA) holds the Medical Writing and Communication Conference — an event offering unique educational and networking opportunities. It is open to all medical communicators, regardless of membership!

When I decided to pursue medical writing last year, one of my first steps was joining AMWA. One of the advantages of being an AMWA member is getting a registration discount for every Medical Writing and Communication Conference.

I planned to attend last year’s conference because it was going to be in Chicago (my former hometown). Unfortunately, the pandemic did not slow down as expected, and a virtual event took place instead. In the end, things did not work out for me, so I had to withdraw.

This year, however, is different because the event is taking place in Colorado, one of the three states — along with Utah and Wyoming — that are part of the AMWA Rocky Mountain Chapter. As you may already know, I have been serving as Director of Events for my chapter since last fall.

Therefore, I could not miss this opportunity!

Last week, I booked the flights and the hotel in downtown Denver. I was fortunate to find a hotel that is only a 5-minute walk from the conference venue. And today, I purchased my ticket and selected the following sessions that I plan to attend:

  • Copyright 101 — A Practical Guide to Properly Reusing and Sharing Published Information

  • Nonclinical Regulatory Writing for Biologics — Case Study of a Regulatory Submission for Emergency Approval of a SARS-CoV-2 Monoclonal Antibody Treatment

  • Fighting Burnout at Home — The Hidden Value of Health Habits

  • Consistency in Regulatory Documents: Writing & Managing

  • DIY Graphics for Medical Writers

  • A Medical Writer’s Guide to Using Master Protocols

  • Beyond Words — Learn How to Use Visuals for Effective Patient Education

  • Yoga at Your Desk — A Journey Through the Subtle Energy Spine

  • Marketing your Writing Practice

Because this is my first time at the AMWA Annual Conference, I will be at the “New to AMWA and Conference Session,” as well as other events, such as the meet and greet, a few networking events, and my regional chapter dinner.

Unless the pandemic slows down considerably, I am considering using the yellow sticker (i.e., limited contact) to help reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission during the event. Still, I look forward to meeting many of you in person and getting to know many others!

I know two of my fellow medical writers will be presenting at the event:

  • Abigale Miller, MSc — the host of The Anthill, a space where medical writers help each other by gathering for brainstorming sessions, informal coffee breaks, and work sprints.

  • Sophie Ash, BSc (Hons) — the owner of Prospology, a business coaching service for new and emerging freelance medical writers who want to succeed in their careers.

If you plan to attend, do not forget to book your ticket before July to get the best deal:

See you in Denver!
